First off, I have to say, so far this series rocks!! Like the first one, I read this one in pretty much one sitting, and that’s very rare for me. I was glued to every page, and that’s a sign of a very talented author.

This picks up right where the first one leaves off. A is still sending threatening messages to Hanna, Spencer, Emily and Aria. However, in this book, the messages are a lot more personal and threatening. A is threatening to tell everyone’s secrets not only to each other, but to their family and friends. A even tells on “You hurt me, and I’ll hurt you back.” For me, that’s a very interesting sentence. It makes you wonder not only who A is, but what did the girls do to A to get A so mad at them, mad enough to either kill Allison or fake her death, and kill someone else and say it’s Allison. That’s not a spoiler, that happened in the first book.

In this books, we get some answers, but as in all good books that will keep the reader hooked, there are more questions. Answers that lead to questions, ya gotta love it.

I like how the girls have depth to them. It’s not the same old characters that are re-hashed in the books over and over. As we lean about them, we can’t help to care what happens to them, and in some cases, feel sorry for them. In a series of flashbacks (more on that later) we’re finally getting to know Allison, and know that she’s not a very nice person. I was wondering why she’d want to be friends with Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna. She has/had strange control over them, much like a bully has control over those they bully. Allison is mean, rude and Nasty to her friends, and knows all of their secrets. Allison uses those secrets to hurt her friends. She’s a very interesting character that I can’t help but to wonder about.

I don’t really want to go into detail on what happens to the Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna, it could lead to to many spoilers. If you’ve read the first one, then you pretty much know what’s happening to them. In this book, we see some consequences of their actions, and see what makes them tick. Speaking of characters, we get to see what the home life is for each of the girls in the book. For me, that’s adds a lot of depth to them and makes them seem real and life like. There is also some High School drama thrown in the mix. For me, that both are examples on how much control Allison and A have over their friends. It seems that A had it out for Hanna in this book.

I love how we really don’t know who A is. We were given some clues on who it might be, but I don’t want to say to much, just so I don’t spoil it.

Usually, when an author deals with the past and present, it’s set up so one chapter is in the past, and one chapter is in the present. That’s a huge pet peeve for me. That being said, Shepard does it exactly right. She flows in the past and the present seemlessly. No breaks, it’s a nice flow that goes on at a steady pace.

I can’t say enough good things about this series. I’ve been hooked since the first book, and I can’t wait to start the 3rd one in the series. This is a series I’d say go ahead and start. Just plan on getting nothing done for the rest of the day, because you’ll be hooked like me. If you start it, I can promise, you won’t be sorry. I can’ wait to see how this series plays out.
